Welcome to 2024 Tsunami Preparedness Week!

On March 27, 2024, at 1400 hours, the California Tsunami Program will conduct the annual Tsunami Response Playbook Communications Exercise

Exercise Scenario: M8.9 Earthquake located in the central Aleutian Islands near the epicenter of the 1957 M8.6 earthquake.

As a part of this exercise, we will test the following aspects of California’s statewide response protocols for a tsunami event:

• Use of the Tsunami Event Distribution List (used to disseminate this meeting appointment) to notify Program partners of a tsunami event. We will use this distribution list on the day of the exercise to test our capability to notify you and communicate critical event information. You will receive notification on exercise day from the California State Warning Center via phone call, text, and email.
  
• Use of tsunami alert messages as issued by the National Tsunami Warning Center to convey tsunami event data and information
  
• Distribution of the Playbook Phase information (evacuation and maritime) providing response guidance based on FASTER calculation results for the specific event
  
• Convene a conference call with CA Tsunami Program partners to discuss the current situation, Playbook recommendations, hear from local partners regarding planned response actions, and respond to questions.
  
• Use of the National Weather Service Slack platform to communicate current incident information
