Tsunamis are a real hazard for Oregon’s coastal communities, which are at risk from both local tsunamis that may arrive within minutes of a Cascadia subduction zone earthquake, and distant events that take several hours to reach the shore. Preparing and exercising emergency response plans throughout the coastal region is an important part of tsunami preparedness. Get to Know Your Zone.
All Oregonians, from coastal residents to day trippers, should know and practice evacuation routes that will take them to high ground should a tsunami occur. We’ve gathered a number of key Oregon resources here to help you be better prepared to survive and recover quickly when a tsunami occurs.
